The Triarchy, sometimes referred to as the Kingdom of the Three Daughters, is a union of the Free Cities of Myr, Lys, and Tyrosh, initially proposed in 416 AC, but not established until 418. Unlike the failed Triarchy of the past, the "kingdom" has no king, but is governed by the High Council of the Triarchy, consisting of three elected despots: the Prince-Admiral of Myr, the First Magister of Lys, and the Archon of Tyrosh.
Originally, this High Council consisted of all thirty-three magisters from the combined city, but by 427 AC, the cities had become centralized under their respective heads of state. In 436 AC, the Triarchy formed the Alliance of the Narrows with the Stepstones; their common diplomatic and economic policies are now the purview of the Prince-Admiral, First Magister, Archon, Lord of Bloodstone, Lady of Last Refuge, and Lord of Grey Gallows.
History (415 AC - 418 AC)[]
Following the Scouring of the Stepstones in 415 AC, the Free City of Tyrosh, led by their Archon, wished to consolidate power in the region as well as provide an effective deterrent against Aeryn Targaryen and his potential ambitions. Though the Triarchy was initially the last idea to present itself to the table, it was well within the interests of the three cities most effected by the conflict.
Though the Prince in the Narrow Sea did not seem to have any initial problems reigning over the small petty kingdom he had built himself, the three cities' had been effectively halved after Aeryn and his pirate lords began excersizing great tolls on ships wishing to pass through.
The Archon of Tyrosh swiftly approached Lys thereafter, citing Aeryn's ambition as being, "grand," and that he would not just stop with the Stepstones. The Lyseni knew it well enough - House Targaryen of Lys was thought to be virtually extinct, but with Aeryn presenting himself atop a dragon in the Stepstones, many knew that it might be an advantage to ally themselves with an old rival.
In 416 AC, Tyrosh proposed a revival of the Triarchy to deal with this serious threat, but the Conclave of Myr, highly influenced by the ancient House Drahar, issued a flat rejection. However, when the Jadro Mazhah Houses, nervous of losing their newfound wealth, vehemently pressed the Conclave to reconsider, another ancient family, House Sarmyr, backed the movement, tipping the vote to the acceptance of the formation of the Kingdom of Three Daughters.
The year 418 AC saw the official ratification of the Kingdom of the Three Daughters. A festival, marked to celebrate the union of the three cities, was hosted, and intended to bring the magisters together to formulate a plan to thwart Aeryn Targaryen. However, no such plan emerged from the joint conclave.
History (418 AC to 436 AC)[]
After political turmoil in Lys and Myr, the First Magister and Prince-Admiral attained power comparable to the Archon of Tyrosh. With a centralized regime that could coordinate common policy, the Triarchy was at last able to topple Aeryn Targaryen. Following his defeat, the three despots formalized this new system.
Without the unifying force of a dragonrider, the Stepstones became chaotic and fragmented for the next several years. By 436 AC, however, they had united under a triumvirate of Mira Sunderland, the Saans and the new ruler of Bloodstone. Immediately this new regime formed a tight alliance with the Triarchy, creating the Alliance of the Narrows.
