Shireen Seaworth is a member of the junior branch of House Seaworth and a distant cousin of the Lord of Fireheart, Lord Steffon Seaworth. Born in 415 to Ser Orys Seaworth and Malora Wythers, she spurned the conventional path for young women and instead trained to fight and command. She is a talented naval commander in charge of Fireheart's ships, as well a competent fighter.

Appearance and Character[]

Shireen is a fairly plain looking young woman. She is comely, but also muscular from years of training and fighting, as is very fit. She medium length black hair and hazel eyes. She often has a serious expression. She often wears armor or other combat gear, and very rarely is dressed in a ladylike way.

Shireen is not a woman of many words or courtesies. Preferring to let her actions speak rather than her words, she tends to be quiet and observant. When she does speak, it tends to be blunt and to the point, oftentimes with an element of dry wit. She also does not do well with court life, preferring to be out sailing on the sea.

Shireen is a competent and confident commander on the sea, and feels most at home when she is sailing. She is an inspiring and trusted leader to the men under her command, and is also trained in two handed combat, with her favorite weapon being a greatsword.

History[]

Early Years and Childhood (415-421)[]

Shireen Seaworth was born in 415 as the second child and only daughter of Ser Orys Seaworth, a member of the junior branch of House Seaworth and the thrice great grandson of Ser Davos Seaworth, the founder of House Seaworth. By birth she was a distant cousin of the Lord of Fireheart, Erdic Seaworth, but from birth it was clear that she would never inherit Fireheart. From birth it was clear that she as a lesser scion of a lesser House would be married off to a lesser scion of another lesser house.

However, Shireen was a fighter as a child. She did not wish to do what the other girls were doing. Rather she wanted to be out with her brother, running, jumping and playing war. Her brother Davos was glad to have a playmate, and the two became fast friends. Her father and most of the family, still looked down on for being upjumped smugglers, did not mind her tomboyish behavior, and she was given freedom to pursue her desires. However, this scandalized some of the other local houses, who expected a noblewoman to be more ladylike.

When she was still a girl of six years old, she went on a voyage to King's Landing with her father. Her first experience sailing had a profound affect on her life. She instantly fell in love with the sea. She loved the call of the waves and smell of salt. She determined that she would be a captain of ship on that journey, which played into the rest of her life. With the permission of her father, she became a ward to Commander Donal, the Commander of Fireheart's navy.

Cabin Boy, Midshipman, Lieutenant (421-430)[]

Shireen had to acclimate herself to life on the sea when it was time for Commander Donal to take to the waves. She still had plenty of time on land, but whenever pirates needed to be dealt with or something was needed on the water she would join Commander Donal's expeditions as a cabin boy. She quickly learned the ropes, getting used to the discipline necessary for life at sea. She excelled at her duties, and at the young age of nine was named as a midshipman for Donal on his flagship.

When she was on land, she would read about famous naval battles and famous naval commanders and their strategies. She read about Imry Florent's blunder on the Blackwater and how it cost Stannis's chance to take King's Landing from the Lannister bastards and resulted in the deaths of four of her thrice great-uncles. She also continued sparring with her brother Davos, who soon became a squire of Ser Orys to learn to be a Knight. She continued to develop her skills with the blade, also becoming stronger as well as a better fighter

As a midshipman, she continued to distinguish herself from her peers with her attention to her duty and her natural aptitude. Donal liked her ability and determination, and continue to train her on the side when he could in the art of seafaring. By the time she was twelve, Donal decided she was ready to be a Lieutenant on his flagship. She became one of his most trusted officers, and although the other sailors were skeptical of having a twelve year old girl as an officer, her natural leadership and her skill set her apart and won the respect of the sailors.

Master and Commander (430-439) []

Shireen would continue to distinguish herself in service, so that when she was merely fifteen years old, Donal made her captain of the one of the ships of Fireheart, the Flaming Stag, after its long serving Captain retired. No longer just an officer, she had to be able to command her own ship now. It took adjustment and some training, but eventually, she got the hang of it. She would join Donal's expiditions and led her ships against pirates; she gained experience on how to navigate through the waves and to guide a ship into combat. It proved valuable experience for her, and she would excel at her duty.

However, in 432, tragedy would strike the House when she was at sea. When she returned one day, she learned from her father that Warsmiths had killed most of her relatives in the senior branch for their faith in R'hllor. Although she followed the faith of the seven, she was horrified by what she heard. She joined her father on the march of retribution where they cornered and destroyed the Warsmiths. Although she did not approve of the sacrfices to R'hllor, she was glad that justice was executed for the slain members of her house.

In the end of the same year, Commander Donal, who was old an ailing by this point, became fatally ill. His time soon came, and he passed away. Her young relative, the new Lord of Fireheart, Steffon Seaworth, decided to name Shireen as his naval commander. This move shocked some of the other local nobility, but for most of the Seaworth house it was widely accepted, because Shireen was known for her skill and diligence. So she became the Commander of Fireheart's small fleet of five ships. For seven years she has continued to hone her skills and protect her House's interests on the waves, combating with both pirates and other threats as well.
